Ezha Kurniasari, senior staffer of DAHANA’s Human Capital Development, shared valuable insights on job application strategies with Mechanical Engineering students at the Subang State Polytechnic (Polsub) during the Mechanical Student Discipline Training (LKMM) event. This session took place in the Polsub Mechanical Engineering classroom on Friday, February 7, 2025.

In her presentation, Miss Kurniasari covered various topics, including document preparation and tips for facing job interviews. She emphasized that opportunities are increasingly available to individuals from diverse backgrounds, provided they understand the labor market’s needs and meet the necessary qualifications.

“Don’t just focus on salary; also consider whether the job aligns with your passion and long-term goals, Miss Kurniasari advised.

Miss Kurniasari began the session by highlighting the importance of self-awareness before applying for a job. She encouraged students to explore their strengths, weaknesses, and interests to determine the right career path. By understanding themselves better, job applicants can choose positions more confidently.

Additionally, researching on the job market is crucial for finding the right opportunities. Students are encouraged to be aware with industry requirements and align their skills with what companies seek. Rapid technological advancements continuously influence the skill sets demanded across various sectors.

Preparing job application documents is another key aspect that she emphasized. She provided guidance on creating an attractive and professional CV that is informative, relevant, and well-written. Spelling and grammatical errors can significantly reduce the chances of getting an interview.

Miss Kurniasari also highlighted the importance of understanding company culture before applying for a job. Familiarizing oneself with a company’s values and mission can help applicants adapt to the work environment. Aligning personal values with the company culture enhances the likelihood of being accepted and allows for better career development.

Students gained insights into essential skills required in the workplace, encompassing both soft skills, such as communication and leadership, and hard skills relevant to their desired field. Mastering a combination of both sets of skills can differentiate an applicant from others.

When preparing for a job interview, preparation is critical. Key steps include researching the company profile, understanding the job description, and practicing responses to common interview questions. Self-confidence and strong communication skills are vital in making a positive impression on recruiters.

She discussed strategies for managing psychological tests, which can be a challenge for job applicants. She advised participants to remain calm, practice concentration, and have a clear understanding of their own character to answer questions honestly and effectively.

Moreover, students are encouraged to build professional networks through communities and digital platforms, such as LinkedIn. A wide network can create more job opportunities, especially for new graduates seeking their first experience in the workforce. The students’ enthusiasm was evident, as they actively engaged by asking questions and discussing the challenges of finding employment.

“A broad network and thorough preparation will significantly assist you in securing your dream job,” Miss Kurniasari concluded the session.
