PT DAHANA’s Energetic Material Center (EMC) has succeeded in implementing the green innovation by utilizing used oil in production of explosives. This commitment to the environment has provided distinct benefits for the company, such as increase of consumer confidence, and the reap of various environmental awards. This was disclosed by Suhendra Yusuf RPN, Director of Technology & Development of PT DAHANA in the DAHANA Subang Energetic Material Center area on July 13, 2023.

“For the past few years, DAHANA’s green commitment has been shown in its main line of business, namely utilizing used oil for production of explosives. This is expected to be the Company’s contribution to efforts of fighting waste and pollution that are currently encountering humans in various parts of the earth,” said Mr Yusuf.

As is known, used oil potentially pollutes the environment. If not disposed of properly, hazardous chemicals such as heavy metals and their organic compounds in used oil can contaminate soil, groundwater and surface water sources. The impact can bring harm to the ecosystems, disrupt animal and plant life, and threaten the balance of nature. Therefore, Mr Yusuf pointed out that it is important for companies to manage the hazard of used oil by utilizing it as a substitute for diesel fuel in the production of explosives.

Apart from that, application of used oil in the production of explosives can also help increase environmental awareness among the public, as well as enhance the Company’s reputation. The use of sustainable raw materials can elevate the preference the customers with environmental awareness on explosive and their derivatives products.

“This can be seen in the fact that DAHANA has won various awards from the government and numerous consumers scattered across the sites where the company operates. Last year DAHANA won the M.E.D.I.I.A award organized by PT Multi Harapan Utama, reaped the PT Semen Padang Raw Materials Management Award, gained the trust of PT Bukit Asam for increasing the use of Dabex, which is made from used oil by building a Waste Oil Preparation Plant on their site,” said Mr Yusuf.

Since its relocation to Subang in 2012, PT DAHANA has demonstrated its green commitment by developing an office area that is certified with a Green Building Platinum by the Green Building Council Indonesia (GBCI). Further on, DAHANA’s green commitment is also demonstrated in the environmental programs from the Social and Environmental Responsibility (SER) unit such as tree planting, provision of assistance in the construction of 2 biogas installations from cow dung to make biogas fuel.

DAHANA’s management hoped that the Company’s green commitment can increase consumer’s loyalty to the company’s sustainable explosives products. By using sustainable explosives, DAHANA’s consumers have also contributed to the efforts for improving the environment.
