Eman Suherman, Chair of the Social and Environmental Responsibility (SER) Unit at PT DAHANA, signed an Implementation Arrangement with Aditya Nugraha, the Head of the Mechanical Engineering Department at Subang State Polytechnic (Polsub), on the development of the “Si Badai” wood stove. The signing took place at the DAHANA Campus in Subang, West Java, on Friday, November 22, 2024.

Mr Suherman emphasized that this collaboration with Polsub demonstrates PT DAHANA’s commitment to supporting the government’s renewable energy initiatives and its concern for education, particularly in Subang Regency. He expressed hope that the academic community at Polsub will be more inspired to innovate, especially in the creation of environmentally friendly Appropriate Technology.

“This partnership reflects the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) pillars 4 and 7—focused on education and clean, affordable energy respectively. We hope this collaboration will be effectively utilized by Polsub for research and community service purposes,” said Mr Suherman.

The “Si Badai” wood stove is an innovation from the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN) featuring an environmentally friendly design. Utilizing gasification technology, it converts biomass, such as wood, into fuel gas, thereby increasing efficiency and minimizing waste.

This stove is characterized by its double-tube design, which generates a turbulent airflow akin to a storm. This design promotes more consistent combustion and fuel efficiency. With just 5 kg of fuel, the stove can operate for 4 to 5 hours. Additionally, the “Si Badai” is equipped with a heat insulator and an air regulator for enhanced safety. The prototype has undergone testing in various locations, including Subang, Klaten, and Demak.

Beyond its cooking capabilities, this stove is also being developed as a waste disposal solution, addressing waste management issues in rural areas. Mr Suherman hoped that, with research from Polsub’s Mechanical Engineering department, the Subang community will gain access to the environmentally friendly and affordable “Si Badai” Wood Stove.

“As a company committed to environmental stewardship and sustainable development, we aspire for the ‘Si Badai’ Wood Stove to be widely adopted by the Subang community,” Mr Suherman concluded.
