The Faculty of Engineering at Universitas Negeri Padang (Padang State University – UNP) organized a joint lecture with PT DAHANA titled “Application of Technology and Innovation in Open Pit and Tunnel Mine Blasting Activities.” This event took place in the Multipurpose Room of the Faculty of Engineering at UNP in Padang, West Sumatra, on Thursday, May 15, 2025.
Setio Budhianto, General Manager of DAHANA Quarry and Construction, was the lecturer. He emphasized that technology and innovation significantly enhance efficiency in both open pit and tunnel mining blasting. Mr Budhianto also shared examples of successful projects completed by DAHANA.
“Alhamdulillah, DAHANA has earned the trust of hundreds of blasting consumers across Indonesia. We actively contribute to national development by participating in National Strategic Projects, including toll roads, dams, and the construction of the Jakarta-Bandung High-Speed Train tunnel,” stated Mr Budhianto.
One reason for DAHANA’s strong reputation among blasting consumers is its ongoing technological advancements. For instance, in the field of blasting agents, DAHANA has entered the fifth generation of blasting agent technology, utilizing bulk emulsion explosives that are more effective than previous versions and suitable for the sleep blasting method.
In blasting initiation, DAHANA now benefits from non-electric detonators with time settings. The Dayadet brand detonator has gained widespread acclaim in the Indonesian explosives market and is also favored by mining executives in Australia.
Additionally, DAHANA has developed technologies and innovations that significantly reduce blasting costs, including the On-Site Plant (OSP) and Mobile Manufacturing Truck (MMT) services.
Dr. Ir. Fadhilah, S.Pd., M.Sc., Deputy Dean I of the Faculty of Engineering at UNP, expressed pride in hosting a lecture from a leading Indonesian explosives company. She noted that hearing from industry experts is invaluable for enhancing mining engineering knowledge at UNP.
“Thank you, PT DAHANA, for providing this insightful lecture on the application of technology and innovation in open pit and tunnel mining activities. I hope students can focus on listening and taking notes during Mr. Setio’s presentation. Lastly, we wish DAHANA continued progress and success,” said Ms Fadhillah.
