PT DAHANA successfully reached the all tunnel breakthrough for all underground work on the Batang Toru Hydroelectric Power Plant (PLTA) construction project. The final blast was carried out on January 25, 2024, in Sipirok, South Tapanuli, North Sumatra.
PT DAHANA’s Quarry & Construction Division GM Setio Budhianto expressed his pride, as PT DAHANA’s people had once again succeeded in completing one of the tasks of accelerating the Indonesian National Strategic Project (PSN). According to him, the success of underground work using blasting methodology in the Batang Toru Hydroelectric Power Plant has elevated PT DAHANA’s confidence in other projects.
“On January 25, 2024, PT DAHANA successfully carried out the final blasting work for the all-tunnel excavation at the Batang Toru Hydroelectric Power Plant. We would like to thank the entire board of directors for their support, as well as DAHANA people who have been always enthusiastic about completing tasks in Batang Toru,” said Mr Budhianto.
The Batang Toru hydroelectric Power Plant is a power plant project under construction located on the Batang Toru river in South Tapanuli Regency, North Sumatra Province in Indonesia. The power plant is scheduled to be operational in 2026 and is designed with a capacity of 4×127.5 MW.
At the Batang Toru, PT DAHANA was tasked with acceleration of construction of a tunnel with a width of 8 meters and a height of 8 meters with a total length of 13,500 meters which had been originally under construction since 2017. To build the tunnel, PT DAHANA utilized Dayagel Extra, Non-Electric Detonator and Electric Detonator technology.
In addition, the non-stop work performed at the Batang Toru Hydroelectric Power Plant was a special concern for PT DAHANA. To maintain the stamina and quality of blasting, Mr Budhianto assigned the site coordinator to manage the manpower, with a total of 84 people, to work effectively. Apart from that, the team in the field also strictly implemented OHS principles to realize Zero Accidents at the Batang Toru Hydroelectric Power Plant.
“It is our hope that the Batang Toru Hydroelectric Power Plant can operate to serve electricity needs in Sumatra and strengthen the Java-Bali electricity supply. PT DAHANA’s participation in the construction of the Batang Toru plant is a form of the Company’s support to its environmental commitment. During the process of work at the Batang Toru Hydroelectric Power Plant, from planning, construction and operation of this project, strict environmental standards were applied,” concluded Mr Budhianto.
The construction of the Batang Toru Hydroelectric Power Plant is claimed to be environmentally friendly, for the fact that the development target is to participate in preventing global warming by reducing dependence on energy that produces carbon emissions; in the process, from planning, construction, to operation, the Batang Toru Hydroelectric Power Plant met various strict environmental standards.
The All Tunnel Breakthrough event was attended by consultants, owners and contractors such as PT Huadong, PT NSHE, and PT Sinohydro. In general, PT DAHANA’s consumers appreciated the performance of the team and explosives prepared by PT DAHANA in completing the tunnel workat the Batang Toru Hydroelectric Power Plant.
