PT DAHANA’s Social and Environmental Responsibility (SER) Unit planted mangrove and coconut trees to help overcome the climate crisis, while implementing the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the Circular Economy pillar. The activity was carried out on Thursday, October 3, 2024 in Legonkulon, Subang, West Java.
PT DAHANA’s acting Corporate Secretary Erwin Cipta Mulyana said that PT DAHANA is committed to growing, advancing, and developing together with the community. He hoped that planting mangrove and coconut trees can help overcome the climate crisis, environmental damage, and improve the economy of coastal communities on the North Coast of Subang.
“Mangrove and coconut trees are not only good for the environment, but can also provide economic benefits for coastal communities. With mangrove trees, the coastal ecosystem will recover and become a nesting place for fish, shrimp, and shellfish that can in turn increase the income of local fishermen,” said Mr Mulyana.
As the West Java Provincial Government program, the Movement for Planting and Care for Trees in Critical Land is done throughout the Regencies and Cities in West Java. Mangrove plants can prevent abrasion and become a natural fortress for coastal communities. Mangrove’s ability to absorb carbon also contributes to overcoming pollution problems.
Apart from that, the existence of mangrove forests also gives rise to the potential for ecotourism that can draw labors and become a place for the community’s economic wheels to turn. PT DAHANA hopes that the community can realize the full economic potential of the mangroves planted by the Company.
“We hope that all the economic potential in mangrove plants can be utilized as much as possible by the coastal communities of the north coast of Subang, particularly the people of Legonwetan village. We also ask for prayers that PT DAHANA can continue to advance and develop to create more activities that the communities can benefit,” concluded Mr Mulyana.
The mangrove and coconut tree planting activities were also attended by Millennial DAHANA, Head of CDK II West Java Province, Legonwetan Police, Legonwetan Babinsa (village supervisory non-commissioned officers, Head of Legonwetan Village, Representatives of Al-Huda Islamic Elementary School, and the Fab Lab City Global Organization.
