The Pusat Riset Teknologi Tepat Guna Badan Riset dan Inovasi Nasional (PRTTG-BRIN)—The Center for Appropriate Technology Research, Center for the National Research and Innovation Agency-Subang Chapter visited PT DAHANA in order to discuss the Sorghum Research and Innovation Collaboration for Community Empowerment Buffering the DAHANA Subang Industrial Area. Also present during the visit were the Subang State Polytechnic and the Sutaatmadja School of Economics (STIESA) Subang. DAHANA’s Senior Manager for Legal & Corporate Communications Juli Jajuli warmly welcomed them at the DAHANA Campus, Subang, West Java, on Wednesday, October 2, 2024.

In his remarks, Mr Jajuli said that DAHANA welcomed the planned collaboration between BRIN and universities to empower the surrounding community. Mr Jajuli stated that the collaboration on community empowerment is in accordance with the Company’s spirit to grow, progress, and develop along with the community around the company.

“As a company that is committed to advancing, growing, and developing together with the surrounding community, we welcome the collaboration with BRIN and universities in Subang. Hopefully this will be our joint step to develop knowledge, while improving the community’s economy,” said Mr Jajuli.

Sorghum is a grain plant that is rich in nutrients such as carbohydrates, protein, and fibre, and contains iron, magnesium and vitamin B. This plant, which originates from East Africa, is also known for its resistance to drought and quick adaptation to various soil conditions.

In the discussion of Sorghum research and innovation collaboration, BRIN plans to provide technology and assistance from seeds, planting methods, to post-planting processes. Meanwhile, DAHANA will allocate a piece of the Company land as a soil for the community to grow Sorghum plants.

The collaboration between DAHANA, BRIN and universities is expected to help absorb labor and improve the economy of the surrounding community, while offering alternative foods that are loaded with good nutrition.

“For your information, previously we worked in collaboration to utilize DAHANA’s forest land together with the Forest Farmer Group belonging to the surrounding community, and succeeded in planting various types of plants. Hopefully the collaboration with BRIN will be the same; namely bringing more help to the community ,” concluded Mr Jajuli.

PT DAHANA and BRIN had successfully developed a waste disposal machine with the involvement of also young generation from Cibogo vocational school. The collaboration also contributed to waste reduction in Subang Regency.
