The demand for nickel is getting higher, along with the world increasing need for portable energy storage such as batteries. The government and Indonesian businessmen respond to the opportunity by building smelters in several parts of Indonesia of which is Morowali, Central Sulawesi.
Infrastructure continues to be accelerated to make sure that the mineral downstream process runs successfully, such as the construction of roads in the PT Sulawesi Cahaya Mineral (SCM) smelter area. Through a tender, the Quarry & Construction Division of PT DAHANA (Persero) won the 12.9 KM Main Haul Road construction project that runs Lalampu village in Morowali.
According to Quarry & Construction Division GM Setio Budhianto, the project first blasting was conducted in February 18, 2021 and the job is planned to be completed in six months.
“Dabex Dahana’s explosives help increase smelter production through construction of a Mining Haul Road that connects the Nickel Mine of PT Sulawesi Cahaya Mineral with the Nickel Smelter of PT Indonesia Morowali Industrial Park,” explained Setio Budhianto in Jakarta (21/06./21).
This explosive engineered by DAHANA’s Energetic Material Center (EMC) has many advantages, such as its resistance to water, a strong and measurable explosion, its ability to adjust density, detonation pressure, explosive strength and gas volume, by means of the gassing process for application tailored to the blast area needs in one hand and ultimately reduce the cost of blasting in another hand.
DAHANA’s performance reliability was acknowledged by Didi Wahyudi, a user from PT SCM who expressed his satisfaction with DAHANA’s blasting results. He said that the explosives and services from experienced DAHANA’s employees have met the expected results.
“The results met expectations, only a few cases resulted in unexpected fragmentation. This is probably due to the presence of invisible voids in the limestone itself. DAHANA’s services are also very cooperative and seem very experienced. I wish DAHANA great success and more advanced,” said Didi Wahyudi.
PT SCM’s nickel mining product is allocated to PT Indonesia Morowali Industrial Park for further processes into batteries. The batteries will be available in worldwide as electric car batteries and other battery needs in the future.
