PT DAHANA’s Social and Environmental Responsibility (SER) Unit has delivered ready-to-eat food aid to the residents of Mayangan Village, whose homes have been submerged by tidal flooding. The handover took place at the Mayangan Village Government Office in Legonkulon District, Subang, on Thursday, December 19, 2024. Eman Suherman, the Head of DAHANA’s SER Unit, presented the aid to the Head of Mayangan Village, Darto.
Mr Herman noted that the issue of tidal flooding along the north coast of Subang has been a significant concern for the DAHANA SER team in recent years. As part of their disaster emergency response program, they provide aid to the victims affected by the high tides.
“We are coordinating with the Mayangan Village Government to ensure that the aid reaches those in need. We plan to distribute aid to the community of Mayangan, which includes thousands of residents from 310 families. We hope that this assistance can alleviate some of their burdens and provide them with encouragement to overcome this disaster,” Mr Suherman said.
Wet hydrometeorological disasters, such as floods, flash floods, extreme weather, high waves, abrasion, and landslides, pose ongoing risks to communities in West Java Province. The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) predicts that the region will experience high to very high rainfall between December 2024 and February 2025.
Since early December, two sub-districts in northern Subang Regency have been affected by tidal floods, with the majority of victims located in Legonkulon District. The floods have inundated homes, public facilities, rice fields, and schools across several villages in the district.
In addition to providing emergency response assistance, PT DAHANA has previously planted thousands of mangrove trees in various efforts to mitigate the impact of high tides on the northern coastal areas of Subang. Meanwhile, the West Java Provincial Government plans to construct a temporary embankment to further reduce the effects of high tides in the Java Sea.
“We sincerely hope that the issue of tidal flooding will be addressed effectively. The people of Subang have faced seasonal disasters repeatedly each year. We also encourage other companies in Subang to join us in helping those affected by these disasters,” Mr Suherman concluded.
