On Tuesday, November 18, 2025, PT Dahana successfully conducted a follow-up operational trial of the BNT 250 Bomb at Iswahjudi Air Force Base in Magetan. This trial is part of a strategic collaboration between PT Dahana, the Air Force Research and Development Agency (Dislitbang AU), and PT Sari Bahari, aimed at achieving national independence in the Main Weapon System (Alutsista).
Yusep Nugraha Rubani, PT Dahana’s Director of Technology and Development, emphasized that this trial is critical for ensuring the operational readiness of the BNT 250 Bomb in the field. He noted that the BNT 250 bomb is designed as a NATO-standard live bomb, intended to eventually replace the imported MK-82 aerial bombs used by the Indonesian Air Force fighter jets.
“We are very grateful for the full support and strong cooperation from the Air Force Research and Development Agency (Dislitbang AU), Iswahjudi Air Base, Combat Group 3, Air Squadron 3 of Iswahjudi Air Base, and PT Sari Bahari. This close synergy is essential to our success in converting defense needs into ready-to-use products that meet stringent military standards. This is not just about the product; it’s about our nation’s technological sovereignty,” said Mr Rubani.
Previously, the BNT 250 bomb underwent a series of design, analysis, and verification processes, including a development test without explosives last March. The current operational trial with explosives is the final test, with the hope of obtaining a Trial Certificate and a Certificate of Feasibility from the Ministry of Defense’s Center for Advanced Materials and Technology (Puslaiklambangjau). Ultimately, this will lead to acquiring a Certificate of Feasibility/Design Approval from the Ministry of Defense, which is necessary for mass production.
The BNT 250 is set to replace the MK-82 bomb, which is widely used by the Indonesian Air Force (TNI AU). This new bomb is expected to enable mass production, thereby reducing reliance on imports and boosting the national defense industry’s economy.
Additionally, Mr Rubani highlighted that PT Dahana, equipped with capabilities at the Energetic Material Center (EMC), is prepared to fully support national defense equipment procurement efforts in the explosives sector. This support covers all stages, from research and development to mass production.
“As a member of DEFEND ID, which focuses on energetic materials, we are fully committed to being the backbone of the explosives supply for every ammunition developed by the domestic defense industry. The success of the BNT 250 demonstrates our capability to produce high-quality products,” he stated.
The successful operational trial of the BNT 250 Bomb marks a significant milestone in the independence of the Indonesian defense industry. PT Dahana is optimistic about progressing to mass production while reinforcing its strategic role as a provider of energetic material solutions for national defense sovereignty.
