PT DAHANA successfully performed its first blasting at the PT Wira Penta Kencana (WPK) mine in the Karimun Islands on Sunday, February 2, 2025. This operation utilized Remote Firing Device (RFD) technology, and the process went smoothly without any issues.
Beri Susilo, Head of Mining Engineering at PT WPK, expressed his sincere appreciation to DAHANA for its support and contribution to this successful initial blasting. He highlighted that DAHANA’s products and services have proven to be exceptional for the application at PT WPK’s site.
“We are very grateful to DAHANA for facilitating the successful first blasting process. We believe that DAHANA’s offerings are very secure in terms of safety and provide optimal blasting results. We hope that this collaboration will bring benefits to all parties involved,” said Mr Susilo.
The RFD used by DAHANA is a remote blasting system that allows the activation of explosives by means of wireless or electronic signals, eliminating the need to manually ignite the detonator at the blasting site. This technology enhances safety and efficiency in the mining and construction industries.
Setio Budhianto, General Manager of DAHANA’s Quarry & Construction Division, stated that the RFD technology can reach an initiation distance of about 8 kilometers. When applied at the WPK site, it functioned optimally; the remote firing range during the blasting was set at approximately 874 meters from the location. Success at the WPK site is expected to attract new customers to utilize RFD technology.
“PT WPK is the first company in the Karimun area to implement lead-in-line products for blasting initiation and to use remote firing device technology for its blasting operations. These products and methods prioritize safety and efficiency in fieldwork,” explained Mr Budhianto.
Furthermore, the PT WPK site and other DAHANA consumer sites in Karimun face specific challenges, such as lightning strikes. As a result, RFD technology is preferred over older methods like safety fuses and plain detonators. Currently, PT DAHANA has been entrusted by PT WPK to provide explosives and blasting services.
Mr Budhianto noted that the first blasting using RFD technology and lead-in-line products in Karimun resulted from in-house training on RFD technology and lead-in-line applications conducted by PT DAHANA at the Aston Karimun Hotel on December 5, 2023. This event was attended by all DAHANA consumers in Karimun, as well as the Director of Operations of PT DAHANA.
“Starting with PT WPK, we hope RFD technology and lead-in-line applications can be utilized by all DAHANA consumers,” Mr Budhianto explained.
“We look forward to a successful partnership. We sincerely thank our fellow DAHANA employees who contributed to the success of the first blasting at the WPK site, along with our deepest gratitude to PT WPK for their trust in us,” Mr Budhianto concluded the interview.
