PT DAHANA conducted an In-House Training (IHT) on the Introduction and Handling of Explosives in 2024. This initiative is part of the implementation of a safety management system and aims to enhance knowledge of the latest products and services among all employees, particularly those at the Subang Office. The event took place at the DAHANA Campus in Subang, West Java, on Friday, December 13, 2024.
Teja Sukmara, Acting VP of the Energetic Material Center at DAHANA, stated that this training is conducted on company premises. The goal is for all DAHANA employees, especially those in the Subang Office, to become knowledgeable about the explosives owned by DAHANA and how to handle them properly.
“This IHT is intended to improve product knowledge among all DAHANA employees, particularly for those who do not work with explosives on a daily basis. We want to ensure that every employee has a fundamental understanding of explosives, including the legal references and regulations governing their management,” Mr Sukmara explained.
Mr Sukmara began the session by giving definition of explosives and providing a historical overview of their development, tracing back to the use of black powder and mercury, through TNT, and the advancement of commercial explosives such as Ammonium Nitrate Fuel Oil in 1943 and emulsion explosives discovered by Bluhm in 1969.
The BNSP-certified trainer also covered DAHANA’s commercial explosives production facilities, which include the Danfo Factory, Cartridge Emulsion, Nonel Element Detonators, On-Site Plants, Boosters, Ammonium Nitrate, and Ammonium Nitrate Solution. Additionally, he explained the various products and their applications, such as Danfo, Dayagel, Nonel and Elemented Detonators, Dabex, Dawagel, Dayaprime, AN, and Ansol.
In the military sector, DAHANA is developing products such as RN01-SS, R-Han 450, and the Bomb P Live series, which includes Bomb P-100L, Bomb P-250L, and Bomb P-500L. Other innovations include Smart Bombs, Merapi Missiles, Weapons Against Tanks, and C4 with Wireless Detonators.
Apart from detailing commercial and military explosive products, Mr Sukmara emphasized the importance of proper explosive warehouse management, which necessitates specific protocols to minimize risk. He also discussed the procedures for handling explosives safely within the DAHANA environment.
“By the end of this IHT, I hope that all DAHANA employees in Subang will have a greater understanding of the necessary steps for handling explosives, will be able to respond calmly to emergencies, and will be aware of the potential dangers associated with each product and its handling,” concluded Mr Sukmara.
