Holding DEFEND ID provided assistance of 5,000 productive plant seeds to the Subang Regency Government. The assistance was handed over by the DEFEND ID Social and Environmental Responsibility Team (TJSL) to Subang Regent H. Ruhimat in Talaga Sunda, Subang on Thursday, 19 May 2022.
This assistance is in relations with the implementation of the CSR priority program of the Ministry of SOEs on environmental conservation, as well as to support the West Java Provincial Government’s program in the environmental field, and the efforts for making the Subang Regency Government’s three million tree planting program a success.
In his remarks, Subang Regent H. Ruhimat said that the Subang Regency Government is currently constructing several roads which are expected to be lined with productive plants. He highly appreciated the initiative from the Defense Industry SOEs.
“This is the second time for SOE DEFEND ID in Subang Regency, after planting of mangrove trees some time ago in Legon District. It’s incredible. We highly appreciate the support for reforestation of DEFEND ID in Subang Regency. God willing, I believe this is not just a ceremonial but a serious one from DEFEND ID as it has been done several times,” said Mr Ruhimat.
Apart from that, the Head of the West Java Provincial Forestry Service, Dodit Ardian Prapanca, said that when talking about planting and reforestation, the first thing to do is to maintain spatial planning as has been done by the Subang Regency Government.
“Let’s support this planting and reforestation. Also, let’s move together with the education service to make sure that our children participate in tree planting events to grow related spirit in them and so that they feel proud of the trees they plant with their very own hands. We will support the planting programs implemented by the Regent of Subang,” said Mr Prapanca.
Meanwhile, DEFEND ID’s Corporate Social and Environment Responsibility Unit Coordinator Donny Gunawan said that planting means fighting (the global warming). According to Mr Gunawan, Subang Regency is a diamond that has various kinds of raw potential ready for polishing, and the planting of 5,000 trees is an effort to help polish the diamond.
“Planting means fighting global warming. We have been in the global warming. Global warming is no longer a discourse; it happens. Of course we have to fight global warming, the greenhouse effect, decarbonization, and of course deforestation. This beautiful nature is not inherited from our ancestors, but is entrusted to our children and grandchildren,” said Mr Gunawan.
Mr Gunawan also had some words about the DEFEND ID Holding. On April 20, 2022, Indonesia’s President Joko Widodo, accompanied by Defense Minister Prabowo Subianto and SOE Minister Erick Thohir, inaugurated DEFEND ID Holding at PT PAL Indonesia. This holding consists of PT PINDAD, PT DIrgantara Indonesia, PT PAL Indonesia, PT DAHANA, and PT Len Industri (Persero) as the holding parent.
