To build a healthy coastal ecosystem while minimizing the occurrence of tidal flooding, the Department of Social and Environmental Responsibility (TJSL) of the Defense Industry SOEs (Indhan)worked in collaboration to plant trees in Legon Kulon, Subang Regency on December 10, 2021.

According to Coordinator of Defense Industry SOEs TJSL, Donny Gunawan, one of the problems of human acts is slashing without planting, which historically has made human ancestors move from one place to another. According to Mr Gunawan, people have advantaged too much from nature and have never given back.

“This is a valuable lesson for us. We don’t only take, we must give. We don’t only cut, we, plant. We have to admit that five thousand trees is not a lot in an area of this size, still it is a a step. Any work, no matter how big, will still be useful if we start doing, no matter how small. So even though this is not a big contribution, God willing, it will still provide the best possible benefits,” said Mr Gunawan.

Indhan’s SOE TJSL tree planting is a mandate from the Ministry of SOEs as stated in a letter number UND-180DSI.MBU.B/10/2021 on the discussion of the collaboration for the National Planting Day TJSL program, and letter number S-64/DSI.MBU.B/11/ 2021 on TJSL program for National Planting Day.

Defense Industry TJSL consists of PT Len Industri (Persero), PT Dirgantara Indonesia (Persero), PT PINDAD (Persero), PT PAL Indonesia (Persero) and PT DAHANA (Persero). The selection of the tree planting location in Legon Kulon, Subang Regency is one of the efforts to help residents to minimize the damage caused by tidal floods that frequently threaten residents.

In the past few years, the people of Subang, especially those living in the Legon Kulon area, have experienced tidal flooding due to the rising sea levels. When flood occurs, the community is exposed to severe damages ranging from destruction of houses and objects in them and public facilities that normally became inaccessible to the public in time of flood.

“We are happy and we feel touched to have the Defense Industry SOEs’ TJSL in our location. So far, we have only received assistance at the time we are affected by flood disaster, and even then we have difficulty accessing assistance, because usually the water remains from two weeks to one month. Therefore, I really hope that CSR can give more attention to the people of Legon Kulon,” said the Head of Legon Kulon Sub-district, Aet Rudiatna.

As known, Defense Industry SOEs is currently in the final stages of forming the Defense Industry SOEs Holding. Collaborative activities among Defense Industry SOEs are increasingly intensive as a consolidation step. PT Len Industri (Persero) will focus on the C5ISR Platform along with MRO and 3-dimensional integration solutions (inter-operability) through Network Centric Warfare as the holding parent. PT Pindad (Persero) has a focus on land-based platforms, MRO and the provision of weapons and munitions, PT Dirgantara Indonesia (Persero) with a focus on airborne and MRO platforms, PT Pal Indonesia (Persero) with a focus on developing marine and MRO units, and PT DAHANA (Persero) with a focus on product development of energetic materials (explosives/propellants) for all dimensions of defense.
