The government is currently preparing the Defense Industry SOEs Holding to accelerate the government’s need for the Major Apparatus for Defense System (Alutsista). One of the SOEs which are members of the Defense Industry SOEs Holding is PT DAHANA (Persero) that focuses on development of energetic material products (explosives/bombs/propellants) for all defense units. One of its superior bomb products is the P Series Bomb for Indonesian fighter aircrafts.
PT DAHANA (Persero)’s P Series bombs are produced for uses of Russian standard aircrafts. Benefitting from TNT explosives, the P Series Bombs consisting of P-100L, P-250L, and P-500L Bombs have the blasting capacity with a debris effect that can demolish buildings, bunker foundations, and moving objects in large areas.
According to PT DAHANA (Persero)’s Director of Technology & Development, Wildan Widarman, the P Series Bombs fall into the category of High Drags General Purpose (HDGP) bombs, which are divided into four main parts, namely Noze Fuse Bomb Assembly, Suspension Lugs Bomb, Body Bomb Assembly, and Tail Bomb Assembly. The production capacity of each bomb is around 3,000 pcs/year of P-100L, 2,000 pcs/year of P-250L, and 1,000 pcs/year of P-500L bombs.
“The three P Series bombs have the same type of fuze bomb, namely AVU-ETM/AVU-ETMA,” explained Wildan Widarman.
With the establishment of the Defense Industry SOEs Holding, it is easier for policy makers to synergize requests for all defense force units, including requests for various types of explosives and bombs. The location of the production which is close to the location of the end user also allows the delivery and maintenance of products of security and defenses apparatus and systems.
According to DAHANA’s Director of Technology and Development Wildan Widarman, the P Series Bombs are created to reduce dependence on Indonesian bomb imports, as well as to realize the independence of Indonesia’s Defense and Security Agency.
“In addition, the advantage of independent production lies in the price of distribution and maintenance which is more competitive than imported products,” said Wildan.
Apart from DAHANA which focuses on development of energetic material products (explosives/bombs/propellants) for all defense forces, other SOEs that are members of the Defense Industry Holding include PT Len Industri (Persero) which focuses on the C5ISR Platform along with MRO and integration solutions for the three defense force units (interoperability) through Network Centric Warfare; PT Pindad (Persero) which focuses on land-based platforms, MRO and the provision of weapons and munitions; PT Dirgantara Indonesia (Persero) with a focus on airborne and MRO platforms; and PT Pal Indonesia (Persero) that focuses on development of marine and MRO units.
