DAHANA’s Millennial Generation (Alena) once again came with the latest idea to help solve company problems. This time innovation is labeled as “Utilizing PT DAHANA’s Domestic Plastic Waste into Paving Blocks”, given Ahmad Rizaldi, a member of Alena. The discussion session was done via Whatsapp Group Forum Alena, Wednesday, January 26, 2022.
In his presentation, Mr Rizaldi pointed out that domestic plastic waste requires extra management as is difficult to decompose. This is also in line with DAHANA’s commitment to go green.
“We assume that 25% of the domestic waste produced by the Company comes the form of plastic waste. The monthly amount of waste produced by the Company reaches 10,749 kg. Meanwhile, to make one hexagonal paving block, 1 kg of plastic waste is needed, and 0.5 kg of for a rectangular one,” explained Mr Rizaldi
Making paving blocks using plastic waste is quite easy. Mr Rizaldi explained that the plastic waste must be separated from other types of waste first. It is then is chopped before it goes to the melting process. Furthermore, the plastic waste is mixed with other materials and put into a molding that has been smeared with used oil. It is then put into warm water. After that the paving block is taken out of the mold and is ready for use.
In terms of cost, the plastic waste made into one paving block will cost only Rp. 100 with the current market price of Rp 2000 per paving block, and therefore the use of plastic waste is certainly profitable. In addition to its use for the Company’s paving blocks, paving block products can also be managed by related units for commercial purposes.
Mr Rizaldi added that the making of paving blocks from plastic waste can serve as a support to the Company’s commitment to getting green property and implementing the principles of going green. In addition, this can be an alternative for companies in managing domestic plastic waste in the company’s environment.
“From estimates based on domestic waste data from the Corporate Service Unit, it takes only two people to manufacture paving blocks from plastic waste as the production process is quite quite simple,” said Mr Rizaldi
Alena’s discussion this time turned out to be dynamic. Mr Rizal also added that the idea of using domestic plastic waste can also be collaborated with residents around the company. Apart from the environmental benefits, this can also help improve the economy of the residents around the Company.
